Big Girl

I feel like my little one is growing up so fast! She even looks much older than a the typical 19 month-old. Most of the time, people guess her to be 2 or older. I think one person even said 3! She is almost as tall as her 3 year-old cousin, however, that is to be expected since her dad and I are both tall. Today she took a step that I didn't expect for quite a while. She has been interested when I go potty, so I decided to let her give it a try. We have been talking about the potty for a couple of months now. We even have all of the great potty books like, Bye-Bye Diapers, Grover Has to Go, Everyone Poops and her personal favorite Once Upon A Potty. Last night, I put one of those little seats that insert into the big toilet for little ones. She sat and sat for a minute or two before she was done trying. She asked to go again this morning, but we got the same result. But, later this afternoon, I asked her if she has to go before I put her in a swim diaper to go out to the little pool and she said yes. So, we tried it again and to my delight and surprise, she made little tinkles in the potty!! I know that we are so far away from actually being potty trained, but I am so proud that she actually took the first step at such a young age. I'm so pound to be her mommy!

Love You Forever

This afternoon I decided to visit a local consignment shop to look for curtains for the new baby's room. Since my daughter loves to be read to, I decided to check out the children's books while I was there. I came across a book by Robert Munsch called, "Love You Forever." I heard something about this book a while ago and decided to read it and consider buying it for my daughter. It's real sweet book about a mother that rocks her baby to sleep and sings a little song that goes, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." As the child gets older, she sneaks into his room and continues to rock him and sing to him if he's sleeping. She even continues this when he is a grown man and sneaks into his house when he has grown up and moved away. As I am reading this in the store, I'm thinking how cute this is and that I am probably going to buy it. As I continue, the mother gets old and sick and she calls her son and tries to sing the song but she cannot finish. She tells the son that he should come see her. The son goes to see his mother and I about make a bawling mess of myself in the middle of this consignment shop! (here come the tears again!) The son picks up his elderly mother rocks her and sings the song to her that same song, only changing baby to mommy. In the end the son goes home and sings the song to his brand new baby girl.

I thought that maybe my pregnancy hormones had the best of me. So I bought the book and gave it to my daughter. I told her to ask daddy to read it to her. As he was reading it, I got choked up again. He got to the part where the son rocks the mother and he just stopped. He couldn't read any more. It was just too emotional! Then our baby girl wanted to hear the rest of the story!

I love children's books! This one may be a bit too intense for me though. It's so sweet and it just hits home so hard. My husband and I just love our little girl so much that I can see us wanting to sneak into her house when she is an adult to tell her how much we love her!

Photography

I am so excited about photography. I kind of got out of it for a little while when I was suffering from morning sickness. I never imagined that I could turn a hobby into cash! I am about to cash out on iStockPhoto again! Yeah, another $100 to squirrel away for the Canon 10D that I dream of owning. I am also about to sign a contract with someone who contacted me about having photos created exclusively for his company. The bad news is that I will not have any rights to the photos once I sell them, but the good news is that I will receive a flat rate for each picture. This is a really fun industry to get into. I can hardly believe that I lasted 10 years in a boring office atmosphere. This is way more fun. Not to mention the ego boost that you get when someone actually wants to pay for your creations! I will definitely turn this into a career one day. Right now, I am just taking as many pictures as I can and making as many dollars as possible before December. Since my baby is due December 5th, and I have a one and a half year old, I am not expecting to have much time on my hands. But, I finally know what I want to do for a living someday and that makes me very happy!

Check out the Image Of The Moment. Leave some comments on how the photo makes you feel. It's part of a new series that I uploaded to iStockPhoto, called Emotions. My husband and I laugh hysterically when we look at that picture!

I Have To Brag

I haven't talked about my daughter here for a while, so I thought that I would take the opportunity to brag a little. Maleena is now 18 months old and has simply been knocking her father and I off our feet with all she is learning. It seems as though her language skills are quite ahead of her time. She has said a four word phrase already! I used to feel alone when she was a baby and we were home all day. I felt like I had no one to talk to, but that has since changed! She actually says words and tells me what she wants now. She will repeat the entire alphabet after me and repeat the numbers 1 through 10. She says "ABC" all by herself. I am always amazed when she identifies colors to me. One thing that she says a lot (with her arms raised) is, "Mama, pick up" or "Dada, pick up". I am also amazed at the clarity with which she speaks. My favorite thing that she says is, "la ya." In her language, that means, I love you. I'll say to her that I love her and she always responds with her sweet little "la ya." Yesterday, she was sitting on the couch being precious as ever, when out of the blue she said, "Mama, la ya" and "Dada, la ya." Let me tell you, if you don't have kids, you can never understand how hearing this come from your baby can just melt your heart. My daughter is a very good child and I know that I am very lucky. She has been sleeping through the night since she was 3 months old. She eats very well and is usually in a pleasant mood. (unless of course she has missed a nap or is sick...) I just thank god for sending us such a little angel.

If you have kids, I'm sure you know how wonderful it feels to have them in your life. It is indescribable. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world with the biggest payoff. I feel so blessed and so lucky to have this chance to know what it is like to have little ones. I can't even imagine what it will feel like to have two. Parents, please leave me some comments on how your little one lights up your life!

Unexpected Money

It's always nice to receive money that you weren't expecting. I was at the mall today, (I'm a stay at home mom during a very rainy summer...so yes, I was at the mall...AGAIN!) just walking around and wasting time. I figured that I would get some exercise by walking and let my daughter play in the play area. My daughter decided she didn't want to play very long, so we were headed towards the exit a little early, when I saw what I fear most in the mall. Surveyors!!! Ahh!! I usually do everything possible to avoid them, sometimes going the long way just to get out. Well, the mood that I was in today actually allowed me to let the surveyor approach me. She was conducting a survey on diaper rash ointment. I thought to myself, what the heck, I have nothing important to do for the next 15 minutes and this poor lady is just trying to do her job. So we went back to her little office where she handed me an ad for Balmex diaper rash lotion and asked me about 10 minutes worth of questions about it. I never expected to be compensated for my time, but to my delight, she handed me 5 bucks! No, it's not a lot of money, but 5 bucks for 10 minutes is a good thing. It's just something more to put towards my dream camera.

Speaking of unexpected money, did those of you with kids get your check in the mail from President Bush? At first I thought that this was some sort of bonus. As I questioned my husband about it, he informed me that it's just an advance on that we would be getting at the end of the year anyway. So it's really not a bonus, just something that we parents are all entitled to anyway. And the entire reason that Bush is taking this approach is to try to boost the economy to make himself look good. Everyone with kids will now go out a blow their $400 per kid on any old thing they desire. I think it's a joke personally, but I am sure there are some folks happy (and in need) of receiving it. The thing that bugged me most about it is the letter that they sent three days before telling us that we are going to be getting a check. Was that necessary? That's a waste of postage and trees in my opinion. Why not stick the letter in with the check? Most people aren't going to complain when the government sends an unexpected check anyway.

Okay, enough ranting about our government for now. Hopefully some more unexpected money will come my way! And I would prefer it to be money that I wasn't necessarily entitled to in the first place! :)

$400 Worth Of Underwear?

I'm not one to spend a lot of money on clothes. In fact, most of my clothes come from the thrift store. I see no point in spending lots of money on something I can get dirt cheap that has been worn a few times. Just throw it in the wash and it's good as new. Since I save so much on clothing, I can justify splurging a little bit on underwear. I used to buy the cheap 3 in a pack for $5 underwear and was somewhat content with those. Until a friend gave me a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret for my baby shower. I didn't know what to get with my gift certificate since a lot of their stuff is so expensive and I'm not much into fancy underwear. But, I saw a sale...five pairs for $19.50. Ouch, it still seemed expensive for underwear, but what the heck, I have a gift certificate. As it turns out, I will never purchase another brand again! These are the most comfortable underwear that I have ever owned. So, I decided the other day that I needed a few more pairs, so we headed for the mall. As we are standing in line, the people in front of us are taking forever to get checked out. That's when I heard, "That will be four hundred and blah, blah, blah dollars." After I heard four hundred, I nearly fell over! I mean, sure these are great underwear, but who the heck needs 400 dollars worth?! It must be nice to have so much money that you can blow it on underwear!! And I thought I was splurging by paying 20 bucks! Ha!
